What to Expect from a Boudoir Session | Minneapolis Boudoir Photographer Guide

One of the first things women ask me before booking is: “But what actually happens during a boudoir session?”

And I get it. Walking into something new—especially something vulnerable—can feel intimidating. As a Minneapolis boudoir photographer, I’ve worked with hundreds of women who all started in the exact same place: nervous, unsure, and wondering if they were “enough” just as they are.

Here’s the truth: you don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to change your body. You don’t need to be anyone other than yourself.

My job is to guide you through every step so you can relax, feel safe, and walk away seeing yourself in a completely new light.

Here’s exactly what you can expect.

Before Your Boudoir Session

From the moment you book your Minneapolis boudoir session, you’ll receive guidance so you never feel like you’re figuring this out alone.

One of the biggest concerns women have is: “What do I wear?”

You’ll receive a personalized wardrobe consult where we talk through outfit ideas, pieces you already own, and what will photograph beautifully. This helps you feel prepared and confident before you even step into the studio.

You’ll also have access to my client wardrobe closet, which includes carefully selected pieces in a variety of sizes (xs- 6xl) and styles. Whether you’re drawn to something soft and romantic, bold and edgy, or minimal and intimate, you’ll have options available to you.

You don’t need to go out and buy anything unless you want to.

The goal is for you to feel like yourself—just elevated.

When You Arrive at the Studio

When you arrive at my Minneapolis boudoir studio, everything is designed to help you feel comfortable and taken care of.

We’ll review your outfit choices together, whether they’re pieces you brought or selections from the client closet, and create a plan for your session.

If you’ve booked a full session, you’ll begin with professional hair and makeup. This allows you to ease into the experience, relax, and settle into the moment.

There is no rush. No pressure. Just space for you to exist exactly as you are.

During Your Boudoir Session

This is where most women realize they didn’t need to be nervous at all.

I will guide you through every single pose.

You do not need to know what to do with your hands.
You do not need to know your angles.
You do not need experience.

I’ll direct you step-by-step, adjusting posture, angles, and small details so you look and feel incredible.

Most clients tell me that within the first 10 minutes, their nerves begin to fade. They start to relax. They begin to trust themselves. They begin to see themselves differently.

The Image Reveal and Ordering Appointment

After your session, two weeks later, you’ll come back to see your images for the first time.

This moment can be emotional in the best way.

Seeing yourself from an outside perspective often shifts the way you see yourself entirely. Many women walk in feeling unsure, and leave seeing their strength, softness, and confidence reflected back at them.

You’ll choose the images you love most and decide how you’d like to preserve them, whether that’s in an album, wall art, or digitals.

Everything is your choice.

You Are More Ready Than You Think

The women you see on my website are not models. They are real women who decided to show up for themselves.

They were nervous. They questioned themselves. They wondered if they were ready.

And every single one of them walked away stronger, more confident, and more connected to themselves.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a boudoir session with a Minneapolis boudoir photographer, you don’t need to wait for a different version of yourself.

You are already enough.
